Northeast Youth & Family Services
MEET THE TEAM
Our team at Northeast Youth & Family Services brings a wide variety of skillsets, backgrounds, and experiences that all directly support the mission of NEYFS. Our shared passion for the service we provide to the community is evident as we work together to break down barriers and increase access to families across Northeast Spokane!

Deidra Hakala
Executive Director
Deidra's passion lies with making an impact on young lives. A born educator, she started volunteering at elementary schools as early as she was allowed. Upon graduating from high school she taught in a variety of settings: teaching rock climbing, leading swim lessons, and tutoring. She received a Bachelor in Elementary Education with a Literacy Endorsement from Eastern Washington University. Deidra is excited to bring her experience and knowledge as an elementary educator to the programs at NEYFS.
Deidra’s passion for teaching centers around inquiry based learning and outdoor education. She aims to spread access to nutrition education, knowledge of mindfulness outdoors, and gardening basics.

Elaina Sicilia
Assistant Executive Director
Elaina was born and raised in Spokane, and has always had a heart for the community. She has a Bachelors in English with a Language Arts endorsement from Whitworth University. She also received a certificate in Mission Outreach Studies from Notre Dame University and has completed the Landmark Forum & Advanced Course.
She is passionate about access to high quality education for all children, youth, and adults to adequately prepare the next generation for higher education and the workforce while also reinvigorating the adults and parents in our community.

Michelle Dawn
Family Support Specialist
Michelle began her career in education at Montana State University where she earned a bachelor's in History Education. She taught in high schools for some time before transitioning to a preschool teacher. Working for Headstart made Michelle realize that there were far too many families running on survival mode and not getting their basic needs met, which she felt powerless to change as a teacher. When Michelle saw an opportunity to work as a family services specialist with both Parkview and NEYFS she knew that it was going to finally live out her passion. She is currently working on organization of the closet and hygiene closet as well as allocating donations from businesses to fill the needs.
William Davis
Outreach Coordinator
You can find William out and about in 99202 and 99207 spreading the word about what NEYFS is all about. He is passionate about gathering community voices and bringing input back to the team to brainstorm how we can remove barriers and improve the services we offer.

Brian Horpel
Tech & Media Supervisor
Brian started doing videography back with his parents videography company when he was 13. His passion for creativity and love for media makes him a great addition to the team.
Brian was brought on as our Tech & Media Program Supervisor, he will be running our media and video editing studio, podcast studio, and computer lab. He is looking forward to leading our after school tech and media programs. He is excited to be able to use his knowledge to help grow our programs into the best they can be and mentor youth as they discover creative outlets and ignite a passion.
